Summer Lull...Sigh...& Blog Award & Write Brain

Well, hello there!  We have reached the part of summer wherein I get frustrated that I still have not reached a happy writing routine and start slipping into my head-desk stage.  At least I can say I looked at this year a little more realistically than last year, knowing full well that the kids being home from school would make it hard.  I just figured I'd manage to eke out SOME time for writing and that's really not happening.  Mondays I get a little writing done at the library (my kids LOVE the library).  Other than that, I'm having a hard time making it happen.

So how the heck do you other parents get the writing done in the summer?

Don't get me wrong, I'm snatching a little time here, a little time there, but I'm frustrated with how little it's happening.

Now for the award!

The always charming Lily Tequila gave me the Versatile Blogger Award.  If you haven't checked out her blog Wishbone Soup Cures Everything, you're missing out.  Who else goes to the store decked out in full pirate gear?  Or goes to work in a fairy tutu?

Thank you, Lily!  I appreciate you thinking of me!

Finally, I know it's not Wednesday, but I'm passing along a little info and link, anyway.  It will only do locals any good, though.  Tuesday, I'll be attending a Write Brain, sponsored by Pikes Peak Writers, entitled Practical Computer Security for Writers, led by J.T. Evans.  If there's info I can pass along, I'll do it Monday.  I'm looking forward to hanging out with writer types so and getting re-energized for some writing!

What's your secret to summer writing?  Are you happy with what you're accomplishing?

May you find your Muse.

Congratulations!
Secret? I don't have kids!

Alex, ha! I also don't have kids, but I do have plenty of other obligations that steal time from writing. The only way I've found to handle it (so far) is to schedule out the time like a meeting, and then not worry about writing after that. I used to have a tendency to think I needed to be writing all the time every day, but that's not practical. So now I set my word counts/time limits, and when that's done I'm okay if I don't write again for the rest of the day.

I got 700 words done one day last week, and I nearly threw a party! Um, that's about it for me so far. yea

I seem to have stumbled in the last few months and lost my momentum. My kids are grown, but my husband takes their place.

When my kids were home I used the summer months for reading. Great times! Enjoy, as it goes too fast.

Yep, it helps not having kids but like Jem says there's always other obligations (work, lawn, housekeeping, dog, etc). I'm getting about a chapter a week done which isn't too bad. Better is the fact I'm on the last two :)

I'm never satisfied with what I do, but having a few shots of tequila (after 5) puts things into perspective. Hmm? Can't believe I just said that.

There are no seasons for me. It gets a lot easier when I don't have to travel for work, which has happened lately. Hang in there, the rhythm will come! :)

Congrats on the award!
I'm kind of lucky in that I write as part of my job, so I'm better able to keep the mojo working when I go home (most of the time). Sometimes Skyrim calls and I must obey ...

Alex, well that is a good secret, ha!

JEM, with both kids in school this year, my intention is to schedule my days with exercise first thing, writing until lunch, and then I can return to writing or get other things done. We'll see how that works.

Andrew, haha, yeah, I know that feeling!

Susan, I imagine there is always something to take that place, which is troublesome.

Karen, you know, that is a great way to do it. If I can get myself doing well over the school months, I will allow myself time out for summer and school vacations.

Mshatch, that is good progress!

Em, ah-ha! Maybe that would do it.

DL, I can imagine travel would mess with it. Of course, it depends. If I were traveling alone, I'd probably get more done, or I'd sit and just revel in having space to myself. I'm really not sure which, haha! But when there is work on the other end of that trip, that doesn't leave any extra time.

Jamie, thanks! That is nice. I need to look and see what your job is.
