IWSG - Forward Progress, Tick Tock: A Stitch in Crime, & Links

It's the first Wednesday in May, which means it's time for the Insecure Writer's Support Group, created by Alex J. Cavanaugh.

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

This month's co-hosts are:

This month's optional question is: It's spring! Does this season inspire you to write more than others, or not?

For me, spring doesn't inspire me to write, though it's my second favorite season (fall wins!). I don't think there's a season where I write more than usual, but I often write less than usual in the summer.

I've been so busy and tired, I haven't finished a new short story since the last week in January. But yesterday I finally got one finished, and I'm hoping this means I'll catch up and make progress again. I've started a bunch, but not finished them. Here's to getting more done!

In keeping myself accountable, I list submission stats each month. April:

2 submitted
3 rejections
1 acceptance
7 currently on submission

The IWSG anthology is out!

Tick Tock: A Stitch in Crime
An Insecure Writer’s Support Group Anthology

The clock is ticking...

Can a dead child’s cross-stitch pendant find a missing nun? Is revenge possible in just 48 minutes? Can a killer be stopped before the rescuers are engulfed by a city ablaze? Who killed what the tide brought in? Can a soliloquizing gumshoe stay out of jail?

Exploring the facets of time, eleven authors delve into mysteries and crimes that linger in both dark corners and plain sight. Featuring the talents of Gwen Gardner, Rebecca M. Douglass, Tara Tyler, S. R. Betler, C.D. Gallant-King, Jemi Fraser, J. R. Ferguson, Yolanda Renée, C. Lee McKenzie, Christine Clemetson, and Mary Aalgaard.

Hand-picked by a panel of agents and authors, these eleven tales will take you on a thrilling ride into jeopardy and secrecy. Trail along, find the clues, and stay out of danger. Time is wasting...

There's no particular season that inspires me more than others. I kind of wish there was in a way because I could work around my creativity peaks and troughs better. Cheers - Ellen

Congratulations on finishing one of your short stories. Fall is my favorite season, too. I think it's because it acts like it's supposed to, up here in Maine anyway.

Congrats on finishing your stories! If I wasn't already part of Dancing Lemur Press I would put my name in for being an intern. It's a great opportunity.

P.S. Fall is my favorite season, too. I always feel inspired then. :)

Good luck on getting more done in May! And thanks for the links.

Congrats on your story! I managed to start off May right by writing a short piece yesterday. I need to get back into submitting. Yay for Tick Tock! It's a fantastic collection.

P.S. You did an awesome job with the IWSG newsletter. :)

And yes, you did a great job with the newsletter.

I hear you about being tired. Glad you were able to finish a story, and I'm wishing you a much easier May. I heard once that it doesn't matter what speed we're going, as long as we keep moving.

Thanks for giving Tick Tock a shout out here to day. I can't believe we've launched. Congratulations on that story acceptance. Acceptance letters always makes me feel a lot better about life in general, and writing specifically--no matter what the season. :-)

Congratulations on finishing your short story and especially on your submissions! It is great that you use the hop to help keep you pushing forward. Like you autumn is my favorite season followed by spring. However, I am definitely more inspired to write in the fall and explore artistic pursuits (painting, drawing, photography) in the spring.

Dang, you're good about those submissions. How do you keep on top of everything? :)

Congrats on the story.

Fall is definitely my favorite season.

Congratulations on your accepted story.

My sympathies on the exhaustion since January. I don't blame you at all. I limped toward my current WIP. But you're still doing great!

You always have some irons in the fire. Summer is my slowest writing month, winter is best. Cold keeps me inside.

Woot on the acceptance! Best of luck getting into the writing groove!

Shannon Lawrence said...

That's a good point. If you know going in that one season is lower, you can plan other things instead. In summer, I typically resign myself to getting less done.

Fall mostly acts like it's supposed to here in Colorado, though we also know we'll get snow mixed in there some (same for spring, which I imagine is the same for you since you're farther north?).

Fall is the best! It sounds like a great opportunity.

Thank you!

Thank you!

Good luck with the new short story and submitting!

I like that saying. That's the one thing I always try to do, keep moving forward even if it's sluggish.

Acceptance letters are one of the best things!

There is something about spring that makes me bust out my camera and want to get back to scrapbooking, so I guess it's the same for me.

Shannon Lawrence said...

Spreadsheets! ha!

Shannon Lawrence said...

It's a gorgeous time of year, isn't it?

Shannon Lawrence said...

Here's to us limping forward!

True, cold also keeps me inside. I'm not a fan.
