Teaser Tuesday 8/2/11

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

Grab your current read
Open to a random page
Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

"By law, everyone ever born within town limits had to be buried here; consequently, the town had more deceased residents than living ones. Maylene wondered sometimes what would happen if the living knew of the bargain the town founders had made, but every time she'd broached the topic with Charles, she'd been rebuffed."

Graveminder by Melissa Marr, p. 2

I haven't read Melissa Marr before, but I'm enjoying this book. This is her first novel for adults; she is also the author of the Wicked Lovely series of books for young adults. I will definitely seek out more of her writing.

Have you read anything by Melissa Marr? Do you recommend her? Anything specific?

May you find your muse.

How do you enforce that kind of law? It's like the Chinese making a law that you can't reincarnate without a permit.

Great teaser. My teaser is here

I have read Melissa Marr. Frankly, I'm not a big fan of the Wicked Lovely series, but everybody else seems to be. Each book has an interesting and unique plot, but she's a very fancy, whimsical writer and it really just isn't my thing. But I hope you enjoy this book!

Yvonne, I enjoyed this book! I don't know about any of her others, though.

Shelly, it's a dark novel, but I enjoyed it. I hope you like it!

Brooke, I will be stopping by today.

Valentina, it was good. Lot of secrets and the like.

Jennifer, wanting to know the bargain is probably what drew me in to begin with.

Alice, they tell you in the book. ;-p

Book Breather, I haven't read anything else by her, but I can say this book wasn't the whimsical type. Quite dark in tone.

Pat, I hope you enjoy it!

Sally, so far I haven't heard anything good about her YA books, but I have no idea how this compares.

I haven't read her wicked lovely series, but I've heard that it's good. And I like it! It reminds me of something, but I can't remember what it was...

I loved her YA books, they were dark and with fairies. I'm excited to know she made a book for adults! Nice teaser, here's mine:

Louisa, good to hear a positive review about the series. I may have to try one just because I liked this book.

Cat, I happened across it by chance at the library and was glad to have found it. Thanks for the YA review!

i never heard of Melissa Marr, i'll have to check her out because from your blurb it sounds pretty good - especially since it's from only on page 2!

That's a pretty strange bargain to make, I wonder why they did it. To keep invaders away? No more plagues? Keep the thriving funeral trade going? So many questions!

Thanks for stopping by Kinda Silly Books to share such a fun teaser!

A fascinating teaser. It reminded me of David Hewson's The Cemetery of Secrets set in Venice: "If you wanted to be buried on San Michele you had to follow the rules... big names could lie secure in their graves. Everyone else was on a temporary permit that lasted precisely ten years."

I haven't read this but I have read a few of Ms. Marr's Wicked Lovely novels and they are also very good. I like how gritty they are. Thanks for the teaser!

Trish, I can definitely say that the intrigue begins right from the start in this book.

Carrie, it has an element of mystery, an element of the paranormal and an element of romance.

Sidne, I will come by later on today!

LKT, glad you liked it!

Anya, glad it sounded good; I hope you enjoy it! Will be stopping by later today.

Ksbooks, it's definitely an interesting question, which does indeed get answered in the book.

Taio, I hadn't either.

Rosalind, oh, that's a good teaser, too! Definitely something that interests me.

Amber, good to hear! I will likely be picking one up to try it out.

Golden Eagle, I'm glad it intrigued you!

Robin, it was a pleasure.
