I woke up to a delightful surprise today! Alex J. Cavanaugh featured me in his "F" post for the A-to-Z Challenge. I miss my A-to-Z co-host team and am a bit sad to not be taking part this year, but it was lovely to be a teeny part via Alex's post. I knew I couldn't keep up with commenting and visiting others this year, so even though I could have pre-scheduled a bunch of posts, that's not the true spirit of the A-to-Z, and I opted to stay out of it. I WILL still be visiting participants as I can, though, (as well as my usual blogs) so hope to see you soon! But I'm on deadlines this week, so no rest for the weary.
I hope you'll stop by and visit all the A-to-Z co-hosts (you can find a list of them HERE in the right sidebar.) Also, Andrew Leon at StrangePegs is doing a fun theme for the A-to-Z on abandoned places. My kinda' topic.
And since I'm posting anyway, I'd like to say that I'm meeting my goals of submitting short stories. I've gotten several rejections, including a nice personal one that said my piece was "beautifully written," which I'll take. It didn't match the theme they were going for (I knew it was stretching the theme when I sent it in, but you never know exactly what they're looking for, so felt it was worth trying.) Once I'm through these work deadlines I'll be submitting elsewhere. I've still got four pieces out on submission, though, and need to find a place to submit two more.
I hope you're out there submitting, or at least writing away in preparation to submit and/or query in the future.

A-to-Z Reflections Post & Linky
It's time for my A-to-Z Reflections. The linky list is at the end. To sign up, make sure you create your post first then link directly to that post, not to your overall blog.
This was my third A-to-Z Challenge, and I had a lot of fun this month with my theme on History's Mysteries. I learned some new things and got a few story ideas from my research. Most of what I wrote about was already known to me in some way, shape or form, but I still learned tidbits about even those events I'd already heard of.
My favorite topic, by far, was the Dyatlov Pass Incident, which was entirely new to me. It's a fascinating story, no matter which direction you look at it from. At least for me.
But my favorite part of this A-to-Z Challenge was not actually my topics or what I learned from them, but the comments people left on the stories. I liked the discussions, the theories, the funny responses, and the great interaction with you guys. Some of you came up with theories that hadn't been mentioned before. Some of them were crazy, but others were just as logical as those already mentioned. All of them were interesting and entertaining.
So for that I have to thank those of you who left comments during the A-to-Z Challenge. Thank you! I had a lot of fun with this one.
Before you think it is completely done, don't forget the Post A-to-Z Road Trip. We'll be announcing it on May 8 on the A-to-Z Challenge blog, as well as posting a linky lists for those interested to sign up. For anyone who isn't aware of what it is, there will be a more thorough explanation on that date, but the gist of it is that you have between the opening date and the next A-to-Z Challenge to visit the A-to-Z participants. This is for those bound and determined to make it through the entire A-to-Z sign-up list to discover new blogs. There are no limits or restrictions, other than that it ends when it's time for the next Challenge.

A-to-Z Sign-ups and Links!
I was going to post photos from the Kim Harrison signing I attended up in Denver last night, but I've decided to save that for my Monday post, as today we're opening A-to-Z sign-ups (though it sort of started yesterday for those overseas...), and because I don't want to make it so wordless.
Yes, today you, too, can add your name to the A-to-Z linky list in order to join us on a wondrous journey of alphabetical proportions in the month of April!
A brief explanation:
The A-to-Z is a blog challenge that asks you to post every day in April, save Sundays, in alphabetical order. So on the 1st you would post with an "A" theme, the 2nd with a "B" theme, etc.
You can choose to write about any topic for each day, as long as it has to do with that day's letter of the alphabet. Some do themes. Others wing it. I've done both, but am thinking I will do a theme again this year. No promises.

This year, due to popular demand, we are opening up categories. You may choose to add a single category code to the end of your blog name when you sign up on the linky. You are in no way required to do this. I won't be, as I feel my blog fits into several categories, and I don't want to pigeon-hole myself. If your blog fits several categories, but you want to categorize, choose the one that fits you best, or that best fits the theme people will stumble across during the A-to-Z. Please write your code in capitals and in parentheses.

I'm Home! And Links
Hi all! I made it home safely last night, after several hiccups, adventures and an emotional breakdown that was a long time coming. I wrote up an entire big huge post about it all, only to have Blogger or Google Chrome freeze up on me. It's 2:40 AM, and I need to get to bed, having been going non-stop since this morning. [Mostly] Wordless Wednesday - A Little Lightness of Being
I originally had planned on doing photos of the fire, but I am willing to bet you guys are tired of hearing about it, so I thought I would post a couple light pictures. This is [Mostly] Wordless Wednesday Light.
This ladybug landed on her hand and crawled all over her for a couple minutes. She was a giggly delighted little bundle of girl for awhile there.
This is my cat, Cleo, and my friend's bird, Mabel, while we were packing up at one of the hotels. These two were hysterical. Cleo wanted to eat her, but didn't understand why she was so rude as to keep pecking her nose and paws when she stuck them in the cage. They were both very calm and civil about the whole thing, which was maybe the funniest part.
This [not so] little guy was learning how to fly our first full day back at the house! It was a delight to see. His mom kept flying down to nag at him, and he would just ignore her and peck at the berries that had fallen on the top of our shed. This photo is through a window, by the way, so please pardon the weird dim coloring of it. Don't you love his eyebrows? He miraculously came up with the ability to fly when he turned toward the window and saw me and the cat staring at him. He'd been out there for about an hour by then, and I'd even walked around down in the yard and greeted the neighbor who lives behind me and spoken with her for awhile. Funny stuff!
I have a couple random facts for you: Did you know some elephants purr when happy? And that they can't jump? Also, ladybugs can swim.
