ShaNo, Not NaNo

For the last couple years, I've made my own goals for November, riding the energy of NaNoWriMo, while not setting everything aside to reach someone else's idea of a goal. I thought I'd continue that this year. So welcome back to ShaNoShoStoWriEdSubMo.

What's that, you say? What the heck does that mean?

I'll tell you! It stands for Shannon's Novel and Short Story Writing, Editing, and Submitting Month.

I've fallen a bit behind from where I was a couple months ago, so I'm hoping the infectious spirit of NaNo will carry me along into reviving my writing mojo. My goals this month will be:

Writing
Courtesy of Shiekh Tuyin and Iyo, clker.com

Write 1 new flash fiction piece
Write 1 new vignette (still trying to fully figure out the form)
Write 3 new short stories
Write at least 5000 new words on WIP #2

Editing

Edit 2 flash fiction pieces awaiting editing
Edit 3 short stories awaiting editing
Edit at least 5 chapters of WIP #1

Submitting

Re-submit pieces currently awaiting submission
Submit newly edited pieces from above

What are your goals this month? Are you doing NaNo or some form of it? If you were to make your own, what would you aim for? If you're doing NaNo, how many words have you written so far?

May you find your Muse.

My goal is to finish a WIP. At least one. While reaching that 50,000 word goal. That might actually let me finish two.

And I'm editing Hot Flashes. Yikes.

I'm crazy.

I'm doing NaNo, and I'm at about 3400 words. Ah, but the day is young! :)

Good luck with your goals!

Its brilliant to have goals that are quite specific. I do hope you get there...Best of luck!

Met one goal so far, finished the a to z, now just finish a book or two and I'm good at my zoo haha

Maybe I should do that--make my own goals--and return to the NaNo.

I hate when my writing mojo gets in a slump. Hope you find yours soon!

My goal this November is to just write like I always do and not treat this month as an excuse to work harder, because I should always work hard...?

Using the month to set your own personal goals is smart!

That's what I'm doing too, Shannon, my own thing in November trying to increase word count on WIPS and keep writing every day, as much as I can squeeze in.

Independent thinkers find their own path. . .I do keep a word count tally to keep me focused.

Good Luck with your goals!

You'll probably get a lot more accomplished than those doing NaNo.

I'm trying to finish up the first draft of my WIP. I'll be thrilled to have it done by the end of the month.

worthy goals! Good luck with them.
Yes, I am doing nano. I need to kick my own butt and get a draft of my paranormal historical novel done! I have about 95 pages so far.

Sounds like really great goals. I've been battling with my computer since I bought it last year.

Hey Shannon!

Have you missed me? Yes, me,whoever me is.

"ShaNoShoStoWriEdSubMo." is the way to go, you know.

As for that NaNo, I'm still NoNo to NaNo! Rather do my own thing than follow the sheep....

Flash fiction for you. Notice I will not make an innuendo about the word, "Flash."

Good see you, Shannon. I shall go find a muse, whatever one of those is...

Gary :)

This is a great idea Shannon. I have so many unfinished NaNo novels I'd be better off finishing one than starting a new one...but I do love NaNo. Good luck with your monthly goals...D

Oh, and check out Vine Leaves Literary Journal for great examples of vignettes if you haven't already.

That's awesome! I love it when people take the opportunity to knuckle down and set goals. :D Good luck!

I'm hoping to finish at least one of the three short story starts, send three queries for my women's fiction novel, and put out an awesome thanksgiving dinner party at my home.

Should be fun.

Wishing you the best of luck on your many goals.

I'm not a NaNo person, either. I've got two short stories that I want to revise (not rewrite), one of those two I might ask peers to crit, and a third short story I want to write from scratch. After those are done and my queue is submitted, I hope to resume work on my novels and get them back to agents. Going out of 2014 stronger than I was in the middle of it, for certain.

MB, you are crazy! How's it going?

Madeline, good luck with your NaNo goal! You had a good start when you commented.

Pat N., thanks!

Pat H., good luck finishing those books! We'd all be good if we could finish a book or two.

T. Powell, it's always good for jump starting what I've been slacking on.

B&B, that's ideally how I'd like it to be, but I sometimes need a kick in the pants. Whether it's November or some other time.

Alex, I prefer it this way. I want the goals to be realistic and to get me moving.

D.G., how are you doing with your goals?

L. Diane, I hope so!

Susan, good luck getting that WIP finished!

Maurice, thank you, I'm trying!

Catherine, good luck with NaNo! 95 pages is nothing to sneeze at, that's for sure.

Shelly, I'm sorry you're still having computer issues. Good luck getting those worked out so you can get back to writing.

Gary, delighted to see you back!

Denise, I love Vine Leaves! I've actually submitted my first pathetic attempts at vignettes to them and had them rejected. Some day I hope to make it in!

Giles, thank you!

Dolorah, good luck with all those goals! I'm hosting Thanksgiving for the family this year (usually we go to my parents for Tgiving and I host Christmas), so that's mixed in, too!

John, good luck with revision and writing. Here's to both of us waving goodbye to 2014 with smug, self-satisfied smiles on our faces.

Susanne, thank you!
