In this blogfest, we're supposed to choose a remake we liked and tell you why this was a good remake, unlike most of the schlock pouring out of Hollywood.
The remake I've chosen is The Thing. Released in 1982, The Thing is a remake of a 1951 movie called The Thing From Another World. Now a cult classic, the movie starred Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley, and Keith David. Trapped in their Antarctic research station with something stalking them that can become anyone or anything, they must figure out who to trust.
Most people don't even know this is a remake, which tells you the first one was lacking. The audience has no idea who has been taken by The Thing and who hasn't. There's great suspense and horrifying visuals. Plus, I'm always a sucker for isolation horror. The scariest part isn't the creature itself, so much as the complete lack of trust they can have in each other. This isn't just a group isolated from the outside world, but a group isolated from each other, yet trapped in a small space together.
Here's a nasty scene from the film (skip it if you don't like horror or grody visuals):
Have you seen The Thing? How about the original? Do you think it was a good film? What's your favorite remake?
May you find your Muse.

Awesome choice! That was my movie pick as well.
Thanks for participating in the blogfest.
I've seen THE THING mentioned a few times, and I can't wait to re-watch it. Great reminder! :)
I had no idea The Thing was a remake until this blogfest. I'm seeing it get a lot of love today, but I've never seen either.
The Thing is quite popular here today. Amazing. I didn't think anyone would choose it. :-)
My link didn't work on the Linky. I think it's because I screwed up the path with the switch to my new, cranky blog. www.cleemckenziebooks.com
It's deja vu all over again! I've already read a few posts with this choice. It's a good one and apparently a quite popular one with the blogfest participants this time around. I've seen the original several times and still think it's a great film--especially for the time it was made.

Tossing It Out
It was one of the first horror films I enjoyed. I became fascinated with the special effects before I ever got into horror films. Plus it had Kurt Russell, who I think still looks hot for his age.
This is the 3rd blog I've read that has picked The Thing. If I wasn't such a horror wuss, I'd check it out.
I saw this a long time ago and knew that it was re-make, but... I don't remember that being the movie it was remade from.
And I don't remember caring much for The Thing.
Thing might just win the award for most chosen!
Thank you for joining our blogfest today!!!

The Thing is popular today! :)
Never saw the originally Thing, not my thing *snickers* I heard people who really like the original like that one.
Now I'm really going to have to watch The Thing. So many people mentioned it.
Yup. This is a good one. There are so many quotes from that movie my family makes use of, especially, "I'm much better now."
The Thing has been a popular pick today. A good one!
The Thing is a great choice indeed,
I haven't seen either version of The Thing. Seems to be a popular choice.
i guess The Thing is a thing. we just always said of the original that he was a living carrot.
I've never seen any version of "The Thing." Not really my, er, thing. But I've seen the remake pop up on a lot of posts in this blog tour, so it must be good!
The Thing wins!!
I haven't seen the Thing in a very VERY long time! But I do remember the delightful shivers from watching it :)
This film is prime contender for the bloggers' choice award this blogfest.
I'm a scaredy cat and always grab the pillow to shield my face while others sit back and enjoy the horror pics!
I've seen the original and the remake; the remake is better. This has to be one of the best movies ever made, remake or not, 'cause it's been on this fest at least three times. Good pick.
One of my favorite remakes! Carpenter was at the top of his games and some of those effects are still so freaky.
I feel that there are way too many remakes out there, but if I had to choose a good one, probably the way they rebooted the Star Trek franchise is pretty cool.
The Thing was a shocker for its time, no-one really knew what the heck was going on and wham the thing struck right out of the blue. Scary movie
I'm suddenly reassured for NOT doing the Thing. That would make three of us. haha
